Alright, guys! I’m way too late to treat this as an actual challenge to be finished this year, but I think this will be a great way to get me out of my reading comfort zone. So instead, I’m going to use this as a sort of checklist and just make my way through as I can. I’m using this challenge from TaleAway because I love her lists and challenges and have always wanted to try them. No time like the present, right?
Basically, this challenge takes us around the world through a series of books- starting in Afghanistan and ending in Vietnam. There are two book options for each of 52 countries, for a total of 104 possible books in this challenge. I’m going to start with one book per country, but it’s nice to know that I have a fallback option if I’ve already read a country’s book or if one just isn’t working out. Plus, if I find that I really love one country’s book I immediately have another book lined up for me! Win!
I’m going to start at the start with Afghanistan, so my options are The Kite Runner or A Thousand Splendid Suns, both by Khaled Hosseini. I’ve heard fantastic things about both, but The Kite Runner is one of the books I’ve had on my TBR list for literally years so…imma go with that one! I’ll be using the library to read these books wherever possible (because I’m poor and libraries are some of the most amazing and underutilized resources ever, just saying) so I’ll have to wait for it to become available. In the meantime, I’ll probably skip forward to another country…my library doesn’t have either Antarctica’s or Argentina’s books 😦 so I’ll be jumping to Australia with The Secret River by Kate Grenville!
I’m working on setting up a Goodreads account so I’ll link to that at some point, but for now I’ll update using posts like this one. I’m really looking forward to reading around the world and just generally getting out of my same old reading habits. Here’s to new adventures!
